From conventional to intelligent – lighting anyone can run. We returned after nearly a decade and transformed the concert room's lighting from a traditional desk to a bespoke intelligent system, controlled from an iPad.
addedPIXELS has a long-standing relationship with Poynton WMC. What started as a conventional lighting install in 2016 became a complete intelligent lighting transformation.
During the club's refurbishment, we installed a traditional, non-computerised lighting system using a conventional lighting desk. It served the venue well for almost a decade – but the world of lighting had moved on.
A complete refit replacing the original system with a modern intelligent lighting rig – 13 fixtures, 289 DMX channels – controlled entirely by our bespoke ShowControl software. Club staff operate the whole system from an iPad.
13 fixtures across 289 DMX channels on a single universe, transmitted over Art-Net. We carried out the full physical installation – rigging, DMX cabling, networking, and power distribution.
Stairville SonicPulse Moving Head Wash 1208s
Three wash moving heads with dual-ring RGBW LEDs, 540° pan, 270° tilt, and variable-speed movement. Dynamic colour washes, sweeps, and figure-eight patterns across the dance floor and stage.
Showtec Sunstrip LED Tungsten Blinders
Two 10-segment blinder bars with warm and cool white LEDs per segment. The venue's primary house lights – warm tungsten-style illumination that can be locked on independently, with per-lamp control.
Stairville LED Bar 240/8 RGB
Eight 8-segment RGB bars distributed across the venue – five along the stage front and backdrop, one on the DJ side, two on the side walls above the dance floor. Each bar's 8 segments are individually addressable for per-pixel effects.
The entire rig is controlled by ShowControl, our bespoke web-based lighting control software. At Poynton WMC, it runs on a dedicated server accessible via the venue's network.
Club staff operate the system from an iPad – they simply open a web browser and tap the button for the look they want. No app to install, no training required.

The Easy Mode interface presents large, clearly labelled buttons that anyone can use without training. Live Mode can even run the lights automatically, listening to the audio and switching between scenes as acts come on and off stage.
The system runs on Art-Net – the same open standard used by professional desks and software like LightKey, QLC+, and MA Lighting. A visiting engineer can connect to the venue's network and take control with zero friction.

We're currently putting together a proposal for a complete overhaul of the concert room – bringing every element of the room's technical infrastructure under centralised control from a single iPad.
The room's existing house lighting would be brought under ShowControl, allowing staff to manage both the intelligent rig and the traditional house lights from the same interface. No modification to the existing lighting layout is required – we're looking at using traditional DMX dimmer packs to bridge the existing fixtures into the ShowControl system.
