A decade of evolution

addedPIXELS has a long-standing relationship with Poynton WMC. What started as a conventional lighting install in 2016 became a complete intelligent lighting transformation.

The original installation

During the club's refurbishment, we installed a traditional, non-computerised lighting system using a conventional lighting desk. It served the venue well for almost a decade – but the world of lighting had moved on.

2026 – Complete Refit

Intelligent lighting, simple control

A complete refit replacing the original system with a modern intelligent lighting rig – 13 fixtures, 289 DMX channels – controlled entirely by our bespoke ShowControl software. Club staff operate the whole system from an iPad.

The rig

13 fixtures across 289 DMX channels on a single universe, transmitted over Art-Net. We carried out the full physical installation – rigging, DMX cabling, networking, and power distribution.

ShowControl running on an iPad – showing the Easy Mode interface with large, clearly labelled buttons for one-tap lighting control

Powered by ShowControl

The entire rig is controlled by ShowControl, our bespoke web-based lighting control software. At Poynton WMC, it runs on a dedicated server accessible via the venue's network.

Club staff operate the system from an iPad – they simply open a web browser and tap the button for the look they want. No app to install, no training required.

Learn about ShowControl

Two audiences, one system

Simple enough for any member of staff. Open enough for the touring engineer who wants full control.

For club staff & volunteers

The Easy Mode interface presents large, clearly labelled buttons that anyone can use without training. Live Mode can even run the lights automatically, listening to the audio and switching between scenes as acts come on and off stage.

  • One-tap presets: "Houselights", "Cabaret", "Party Mode"
  • Automatic Live Mode – listens to audio, no intervention needed
  • Master dimmer for global brightness control
  • No training required – learn it in minutes

For visiting professionals

The system runs on Art-Net – the same open standard used by professional desks and software like LightKey, QLC+, and MA Lighting. A visiting engineer can connect to the venue's network and take control with zero friction.

  • Art-Net standard – connect any compatible desk or software
  • Complete patch documentation in the Patch tab
  • Fixture identify – pulse any fixture to confirm which is which
  • No proprietary hardware, no barriers

What this venue gets

Non-technical staff control the entire rig from an iPad. Tap a button, get the look.

17 static scenes

House lights, cabaret, colour washes, and themed palettes – sunset, ocean, forest, arctic, fire, and more.

25 animated programmes

Sound-to-light, disco sweeps, knight rider, police lights, theatre chase, Ghostbusters, Nyan Cat, and more.

Zone restriction ensures heads can't accidentally blind the audience. Full room, dance floor, stage, or spotlight.

Per-lamp sunstrip control

Individual blinder segments can be toggled on or off, independently of whatever programme is running.

Crossfading

Smooth transitions between any two scenes with configurable fade times – instant to 10 seconds.

Phase 2 – Full Room Control

We're currently putting together a proposal for a complete overhaul of the concert room – bringing every element of the room's technical infrastructure under centralised control from a single iPad.

House lighting integration

The room's existing house lighting would be brought under ShowControl, allowing staff to manage both the intelligent rig and the traditional house lights from the same interface. No modification to the existing lighting layout is required – we're looking at using traditional DMX dimmer packs to bridge the existing fixtures into the ShowControl system.

PA & sound system upgrade

A full upgrade of the concert room's PA and sound system, designed to be centrally managed from the same iPad. One device, one interface – lighting, house lights, and sound all controlled from a single point.
